Revere BOE recognizes students, adds e-Sports Club

BATH — The Revere Local Schools Board of Education recognized outstanding achievements by district students and added a new middle school e-Sports program March 15.
Revere High School Principal Andrew Peltz announced senior Sanchita Chandran earned a state championship in Congressional Debate at the 2022 state speech and debate competition and noted she earned a state championship win in speech and debate in middle school.
He also said Peyton Thurman, a swim team member, qualified for her state meet this year and achieved a sixth-place finish.
Other students nominated by teachers for recognition include: Nathanial Habig, Braelyn Kuzas, Austin Pietro and Vivian Vukoder, from Richfield Elementary School; Caroline Kuczma, Mikayla Kuzas, Joshua Lunieski, Seymanthika Madiraju, Celia Shiban, Ayden Shrestha, Caleb Sin, Ava Treichel, Violet Vukoder, and Damon Winchell, from Bath Elementary School; Mario Brienza and Alisha Schimmoeller, from Revere Middle School; and Grace Deliberato, Mollie Gray, and Lucas Timpone, from Richfield High School.
In other business, the board approved the formation of the RMS e-Sports Club and Andrew Edwards as the volunteer adviser for the new club.
RMS Principal Bill Conley said, “This spring we will be functioning as a club. … We wanted to work out the kinks now and be ready to roll as an e-Sports team next year.”
Conley thanked Technology Director John Schinker and integration coaches Joyce Pushpak and Theresa Whyte for their work and support in getting the program up and running. According to Schinker, Pushpak was also instrumental in obtaining a GAR grant of $10,000 to get the e-Sports program off the ground.
Also at the meeting, the board approved:
• memoranda of understandings for the high school College Credit Plus programs offered by The University of Akron and Stark State College, as well as with the Revere Education Association to generate an evaluation tool for district literary coaches not covered under the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System 2.0;
• a three-year agreement with RIPCHO Studio to provide student photography services;
• four high school Student Assistant Committee members to each receive a $1,082 stipend from Ohio School Wellness Grant funds;
• the textbook “The House on Mango Street” for 10th-grade Honors English. The 1984 novel by Mexican-American author Sandra Cisneros tells the story of a 12-year-old Chicana girl growing up in the Hispanic quarter of Chicago and which has been sometimes challenged for its depiction of domestic and sexual violence;
• accepting a donation of $300 from Melinda and Stephen Morris to the high school lacrosse program and four donations totaling $1,222 from Bath Volunteers for Service for high school programs.
During an event held prior to the board meeting, Revere Schools welcomed new high school head football coach Bobby Nickol, who was selected from among 40 applicants and comes from coaching stints at Barberton and St. Vincent-St. Mary high schools.
The Revere school board will next meet April 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the Media Center at Revere High School, 3420 Everett Road.
