FLINT (WJRT) – There’s a new effort to make sports equipment more available to Flint children. 

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint is partnering with Cline, Cline & Griffin, Detroit Pistons, Planet Fitness, and Siwek Construction for the ‘Ball Together Now’ program.

The group is asking the community for new or gently used sports items suchs as basketballs, soccerballs, footballs, tennis rackets, cleats, baseball hats, helmets, yoga mats, and more. 

Organizers said all Flint children should have the opportunity to play sports without cost being a barrier.

The Detroit Pistons donated 250 basketballs to be distributed in the community. And Landaal Packaging donated the collection boxes.

‘Ball Together Now’ is collecting sports items through Sunday, June 5, at the following locations:

Planet Fitness Flint Township, Genesee Valley Center, 3333 S Linden Rd, Flint Twp, MI 48507

Planet Fitness Saginaw, 4572 State St Ste 1, Saginaw, MI 48603

The community is also invited to make donations at an event at the Flint Farmers’ Market on East 1st Street on Saturday, May 7, from 9 am to noon.

Organizers said the he donated sporting goods will be distributed to children during the “Be Fit Festival” at the Boys & Girls Club on Friday, June 24.
